Finding someone to trust is easier said than done.
Will they judge me? Laugh at me? Think I'm weird?
The answers are…
No. I won’t judge you.
No-ish. I’ll laugh with you and…
Yes. I might think you’re weird but I’m weird too, so that’s okay.

Mike Porter, MA, LMFT
We all have times where we just feel a little (or a lot) overwhelmed. We delude ourselves into thinking everyone else has it all figured out. They don’t. And, it’s okay that you don’t. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, at a loss for how to help your loved one, or just unsure of the next steps in your relationship, therapy can help.
I work with individuals, couples, teens and children. I have a background in education and an emphasis in child and adolesence therapy but also love working with adults and couples.
I'm ready to get started when you are.
Therapy for Individuals
Why do we try to shoulder so much by ourselves?
Would you ever try lifting a huge boulder by yourself? I mean, most of us might, but we’d quickly realize we couldn’t and ask for help…

Therapy for Couples
Maintaining a strong relationship is hard.
Think of a relationship like two row boats next to each other. The goal is to move in the same direction. At the same time. Which is more difficult than it sounds…
Therapy for Children, Teens & Families.
Family is fun, right?
I mean, they are often our biggest cheerleaders, while occasionally being those that hurt us the most…

Why Therapy? Why Now?
The hardest part is often setting the appointment.
The stigma around mental health is improving, but many people still find themselves feeling judged when they're struggling. They think they should be able to handle things on their own, and that reaching out for help makes them weak somehow. Nothing is further from the truth! Real strength is recognizing when you are out of your depth and finding the courage to connect with an expert who can help you grow and heal.
Is therapy really worth the investment?
Therapy is a meaningful investment in your well-being—one that can lead to lasting improvements in how you feel, think, and function. Most therapy clients are glad they made the investment. If you're feeling unsure, consider starting with a few sessions. Mike will collaborate with you to find an approach that aligns with your goals. And remember, therapy doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment; you decide when to begin and when you’re ready to move on. Mike is there to guide you along the way.
Will I need therapy and medication?
Starting with therapy first has some clear advantages—it helps those who are unsure about medication, and in many cases, is all that’s needed. Medication is always an option though. The two together can be highly effective. If you are interested in adding medication to your treatment, your therapist can guide you on when it's the right time to speak with a medical provider. Together, your therapist and doctor can help you find a treatment plan that works best for you.
